Antoine Sanzay Saumur-Champigny "Les Poyeux" 2017: Description and Review Notes
Description: This wine comes from the 4-hectare vineyard of Les Poyeux , one of the most prestigious sites in Saumur-Champigny. The vines, planted in 1965, are planted on a terroir of limestone and clay. The estate is cultivated organically, with traditional vinification: natural fermentation without added yeasts, aging for 15 months in tuns and large old wooden containers, followed by 6 months in vats before bottling. No filtering or fining is carried out, and sulfites are added in minimal quantities.
The 2017 vintage, characterized by a hot and dry year, offers a balanced, elegant and very fresh wine. The dominant aromas include notes of juicy cherry, blackcurrant, vanilla spices, and a touch of bitter herbs, supported by a mineral structure and fine tannins.
Reviews and ratings:
- Vivino: 4.0/5, praising its elegance and ability to age well through 2026 or beyond .
- Wine Enthusiast: The wine is considered vibrant and fresh, with a potential ageing potential of around ten years. The liveliness and complexity make it an excellent example of Loire Cabernet Franc .
